detected dubious ownershipFixed

Git: fatal: detected dubious ownership in repository

Since the CVE-2022-24765 fix in Git 2.35.2, Git refuses to read a repository whose working tree or .git directory is owned by a different user than the one running the command. It shows up in containers, CI jobs, sudo sessions and shared drives. Fix the ownership if the repo should be yours, or add the exact path to safe.directory in your global config — never in the repo's own config, which Git ignores for this.

Git
Start request repeated too quicklyFixed

systemd: Start request repeated too quickly

systemd refuses to start a unit that was started more than StartLimitBurst times (default 5) within StartLimitIntervalSec (default 10s), and Restart= counts against that limit. With the 100 ms default RestartSec a crashing service burns all five attempts in under a second. Find the real crash in the journal, fix it, run reset-failed, and give restarts room with RestartSec.

systemd
Too many authentication failuresFixed

SSH: Received disconnect ... Too many authentication failures

Your agent is offering more keys than the server will let you try. Every public key sshd looks at burns one of the MaxAuthTries attempts — six by default, often three on a hardened host — so the right key never gets its turn and the server hangs up before you type anything. IdentitiesOnly=yes with an explicit IdentityFile pins the connection to one key and the attempt count drops to one.

OpenSSH
failed calling webhookFixed

Kubernetes: Internal error occurred: failed calling webhook

An admission webhook sits in front of your write, the API server could not get an answer out of it, and failurePolicy: Fail turned that silence into a rejection. The tail of the message is the whole diagnosis: context deadline exceeded means the call went nowhere, no endpoints available means nothing is running, and an x509 line means the API server does not trust the webhook's certificate. Each has a different fix, and none of them is your manifest.

Kubernetes
1722Fixed

Active Directory: replication fails with error 1722, The RPC server is unavailable

RPC reports 1722 (0x6ba, RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE) when a lower layer fails to connect, so the real fault is almost never RPC itself — it is DNS, a blocked port, or a host-side setting on one of the two domain controllers. repadmin tells you which partner is failing, dcdiag /test:dns rules out name resolution, and Test-NetConnection plus the dynamic port range settle the firewall question. The most common miss is a rule that allows TCP 135 but not 49152–65535.

Windows Server Active Directory
5.7.26Fixed

Gmail rejects your mail with 550-5.7.26: unauthenticated email is not accepted due to the domain's DMARC policy

Gmail enforced the DMARC policy your own domain publishes: the message failed both SPF and DKIM alignment against the header From: domain, so a p=quarantine or p=reject policy turned it into a hard bounce. The Authentication-Results header names the failing check, and three dig queries against your SPF, DMARC and DKIM records name the cause. A near-identical bounce about authenticating with SPF or DKIM is a different problem — Gmail's baseline sender requirements, not your policy.

Windows Server RDSFixed

Windows Server RDS: The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license

The 120-day RD Licensing grace period ended and the session host has no usable license server, so it refuses sessions. GetGracePeriodDays returning DaysLeft 0 and an empty SpecifiedLSList confirm it in seconds. The fix is a real, activated license server with CALs that are new enough for the host — a 2019 CAL cannot serve a 2022 session host — configured through the deployment or the Licensing policies, plus RPC ports open between the two.

Windows Server RDS
1205Fixed

MySQL: ERROR 1205 (HY000): Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction

A statement waited the full innodb_lock_wait_timeout for a row lock another transaction is still holding, and gave up. sys.innodb_lock_waits names the blocking session and hands you the KILL statement, and a blocking_query of NULL means the blocker is idle on an open transaction. The detail most retry loops get wrong: by default only the timed-out statement is rolled back, so your transaction is still open and still holds every lock it took earlier.

MySQL
AADSTS50011Fixed

Microsoft Entra ID: AADSTS50011, the redirect URI specified in the request does not match the redirect URIs configured for the application

Sign-in completes and then Entra ID refuses the last hop, because the redirect_uri your app sent is not a byte-for-byte match for any URI registered on the app. The match is case-sensitive, counts the trailing slash, requires https outside localhost, and treats the port as significant everywhere except localhost. It also splits by platform: web, spa and publicClient are three separate lists, and URIs added to the service principal instead of the application object can disappear. Read the URI and the app ID out of the error, compare them with az ad app show, add the exact string with az ad app update or a Graph PATCH, then wait three to five minutes.

Microsoft Entra ID
MISCONFFixed

Redis: MISCONF Redis is configured to save RDB snapshots, but it's currently unable to persist to disk

Reads keep working and every write is rejected, because the last background save failed and stop-writes-on-bgsave-error defaults to yes. The log names the real cause — no space, a dir the redis user can't write, a read-only mount at rename time, or fork failing with Cannot allocate memory. Fix the cause, run one BGSAVE, and writes come back on their own with no restart: rdb_last_bgsave_status flips from err to ok. Setting stop-writes-on-bgsave-error no restores writes instantly but leaves the snapshot broken, so treat it as a deliberate trade, not the fix.

Redis
0x80070035 / Event ID 31017Workaround

Windows 11: "Your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access" when opening a NAS share (0x80070035)

The SMB client on Windows 10 Enterprise/Education/Pro for Workstations, Windows 11 Pro and Windows Server 2019+ refuses guest logons by default, and Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise/Pro/Education also requires SMB signing, which guest sessions can't do. A NAS share that only offers guest access therefore fails with the 'block unauthenticated guest access' dialog, Error code 0x80070035, or System error 3227320323, and Event ID 31017 'Rejected an insecure guest logon' lands in the SmbClient/Security log. The fix Microsoft recommends is a real account on the NAS and signing support in its firmware; Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableInsecureGuestLogons $true (plus -RequireSecuritySignature $false on 24H2) is the escape hatch, and it costs you signing and encryption on that client.

535 5.7.139Workaround

Exchange Online: 535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful, SmtpClientAuthentication is disabled

A scanner, script or app that sends through smtp.office365.com gets 535 5.7.139 because the SMTP AUTH protocol is switched off for the tenant, for that mailbox, or by an authentication policy or security defaults that block Basic authentication. Read the wording (Tenant, Mailbox, or 'did not meet the criteria'), confirm with Get-TransportConfig, Get-CASMailbox and Get-AuthenticationPolicy, then open SMTP AUTH on the one mailbox that needs it rather than tenant-wide. Treat Basic SMTP AUTH as a bridge: Microsoft disables it by default for existing tenants at the end of December 2026, so move the sender to OAuth, High Volume Email or a relay connector.
